Overview
In 1999, after Harsh and Aruna Bhargava had returned from Jaipur, India after having witnessed the huge unemployment problem in India including the police firing at the youth seeking jobs in Jhunjhunu, they had decided to start a project for training the youth in entrepreneurship in their home town in Jaipur.
Through a common friend Jay Misra, they met Dr .Purnendu Chatterjee, a very successful business, philanthropist who is deeply committed to the growth of entrepreneurship in India. On their first meeting Dr. Chatterjee agreed to fund the project provided a center was started in Kolkata too. From then on there has been no looking back.
The first center of I Create was born in Kolkata followed by Jaipur.
The first training was held in Kolkata to selected participants from potential institutes in April 2000 by Harsh & Aruna Bhargava, and Julie Cantor from NFTE. The feedback was extremely good and to carry this movement forward Sreoshi Moitra was invited to be the Director of I Create West Bengal, under the I Create Foundation of The Chatterjee Group.
Today I Create West Bengal is one of the many successful centers in India with its reach to villages and urban areas. Dr Chatterjee is on the board of I Create Inc., and is one of the strongest pillars for I Create program all over India. His commitment to the cause has been steadfast not just in financial sponsorship, but in providing motivation and guidance to the top I Create Management. Dr Chatterjee is the ecipient of a Life Time Achievement Award for Promoting Entrepreneurship in India
